Why Forward?

I’ve been asked a few times about the Forward Party – what it is and why I choose to run on its ticket.

Here’s the short answer: I wish this election wasn’t partisan. And since it is, the Forward Party is the party most aligned with what I believe and how I work. Read more about their values here.

Here’s the long answer: The Forward Party was founded by former Republicans and Democrats, who endorse candidates who get stuff done, commit to listening to conflicting perspectives, collaborate for the good of the people they represent, and  follow the rule of law. Most importantly, the Forward Party also endorses candidates for local office who can do the jobs they are elected to do.

I was approached to run for treasurer because I have the background and experience to do the things required of a treasurer. A county surveyor should be able to “survey”; a county assessor should be able to “assess”; and a county treasurer should have knowledge and experience associated with financial management. If I can prove to voters that I am the best qualified candidate to do the job while providing an ounce of relief to the exhausted majority with the Forward Party, that’s a win-win in my book.

According to Sheila Reiner, this race has not been contested in over 40 years. That aligns with research from BallotReady.org that reports 70% of all 2024 races were uncontested and 82% of county races were uncontested. I don’t like the idea of political party bosses picking the people who impact our day-to-day lives, and neither does the Forward Party.

The Mesa County Treasurer race will be contested in 2026. All voters in Mesa County will have a choice, regardless of party affiliation. I hope anyone who cares about qualification over affiliation will review my background and experience and choose the candidate best suited to protect, report, and grow taxpayer funds.
